A Future Launch
I am very proud to announce that the Fleet will be increasing in size this coming September.
My first son and the love of his life are expecting a baby and I am very excited and proud that I will become a Grandfather.
It really hit me when I saw a picture of a sonogram of the little life that has begun to form what is/will be a little bundle in my arms some day. My Grandchild. An incredible miracle.
I recalled all the feelings and emotions I felt with my first and each child.
I showed the picture to my mom, who is in a nursing home under hospice care, the other night and when I explained what she was looking at she smiled big and said, “that’s my grandbaby!” And we both beamed big time. And I showed it to Dad too and he smiles big and patted me on the back and said, “that’s neat son.”
Later that evening I was driving home after dropping Dad off at his house and I was listening to a radio program called Delilah were people call in and request songs for their relationship issue or situation. One caller was the wife of a soldier that will be coming home from Iraq. She and other wives were getting together to bake and make banners etc for the return of their husband. I have been and am now every so grateful for our troops and their sacrifice for our freedom and security. Her call heightened my awareness and gratitude for the soldier’s family sacrifice as well. My gratefulness is even more intensified now because what they are doing now has an impact on the future of, not only my own children but also, my Grandchild.
Soon I am embarking on remodeling/refurnishing my homeport. I have always included in my vision of what I want to do here a picture of this place someday being “Grandpa’s house.” That vision is more in focus now and added to the sense of urgency. A fun thought is that this home will be furnished with stuff that spans many generations.
My stuff will be from my Grandchild point of view..Grandpa’s stuff. My Mom and Dad’s stuff..Great Grandparents stuff. My Grandma and Grandpa’s stuff..Great Great Grandparents Stuff. And I still need to have some things dated that might be my Great Grandparents stuff..Great Great Great Grandparents stuff. Okay, my head is spinning a bit here.
I never knew my Grandfathers. They both passed away before my parents even met. But what I was told about them, well they must have been pretty neat men.
I hope I can be the Grandfather I never had.
Thank you Lord for this precious privilege and honor.
